I love my career as a teacher! After getting my Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, and being unsatisfied in my first position as an insurance agent, I decided to go back to school to become a school teacher. While working on my certification, I was a teacher's assistant and substitute teacher.
Once I completed my certification, I began my teaching career at Craig Elementary in the Parkway School District, as a 5th grade teacher. Upon getting married to my husband, Todd Baker, I moved to Bethany, Missouri. I then taught 4th grade at Parkview Elementary in the Cameron R-1 School District for two years. I was fortunate enough to obtain a teaching position closer to home. I taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade combination classrooms for 4 1/2 years. At that point my husband was transferred to Mt. Vernon, Illinois. After substitute teaching for half a year, I taught 5th grade at Buford Elementary for one year before my daughter was born. I then stayed at home with my children for the next 13 years. After returning to Missouri, I again did some substitute teaching while being a "stay at home mom". In 2012 I returned to teaching full time as a 5th grade ELA and Social Studies teacher at Cameron Middle School. In 2023 I transitioned to 6th grade Social Studies at Cameron Veterans Middle School. |
